The Transformation of Abraham Lincoln (1998)
by Douglas L. Wilson (1998)
This is a very interesting work, that could be improved by detailed attention to memetics. It is about the memes acquired by Lincoln in the period 1831 (age 22 newly out of his parents’ home) to 1842 (age 33 and his marriage), and how they were manifested in his behavior.
An interesting aspect of the work is its attention to the sources of the evidence. Wilson works hard to see through the encrustation of legend to the reality beneath the many, and often contradictory, testimonies to Lincoln’s life in this period.
