How To Lie With Statistics (1954)
by Darrell Huff (1913-2001)
This book was mentioned on some web site, by someone surprised to find a fifty year old book that hadn’t gone obsolete.
I didn’t read it all, but it certainly isn’t obsolete. It clearly explains the many ways that statistics can be abused. Huff’s approach is amusing enough to keep the reader alert through some pretty dry material. The book ought to be required reading in high schools, coupled with fresh examples from daily news reports.
